UTM campaign URL builder

Tag a link so you can prove which campaign earned the sale. Consistent naming matters more than the tool, so this one enforces it by default.

Fill in the required fields to build your URL.

Nothing you type here leaves your browser. Analytics platforms read these five parameters, so spelling and case have to match across every link in a campaign or the data splits.

The part everyone gets wrong

Case matters, and it will punish you. Analytics treats Facebook and facebook as two separate sources. Six months in you have a report with the same campaign spread across four rows. Pick lower case, always, which is why it is switched on above.

Source is the where, medium is the how. Source is the specific site or list (google, linkedin, october_newsletter). Medium is the mechanism (cpc, email, social). Getting these the wrong way round is the second most common mistake we see in audits.

Never tag internal links. Putting UTMs on a link between two pages of your own site starts a brand new session and credits the visit to the campaign, wiping out the original source. It is a genuinely destructive habit.

Write the convention down. The tool is easy, the discipline is not. Agree a format for campaign names before the first link goes out, and keep a shared sheet of every tagged URL.

If your reporting is already a mess, our attribution and forecasting work exists to untangle exactly this.

Can you prove which channel made the money?

Most businesses cannot. We rebuild reporting so you can.
